Coffee Cake Recipe

Hazelnut Coffee Cake

¾ cup brown sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon, ground
1 tsp nutmeg, ground
½ tsp salt
2/3 cup milk
1 egg
¼ cup honey
½ cup hazelnuts, ground

Topping:

1 cup confectioner's sugar 2 tbs hot milk ½ cup hazelnuts, whole

Preheat oven to 350F.

In a mixing bowl, stir together sugar, flour, baking soda and powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Add milk, egg and honey, stirring thoroughly to mix. Fold in ground hazelnuts.

Pour batter into a 9-inch square baking pan that has been greased, and bake for an hour. Let it cool slightly, then remove from pan.

In a small bowl, beat confectioner's sugar and hot milk until smooth. Drizzle glaze over the top of the cooled cake. Decorate with whole nuts as well.
